Featured General EA Sports Madden 18

  1. Madden 18 has just been revealed in the form of a trailer and the games cover art. The main feature of this first trailer is that the game will be built on the Frostbite engine, after FIFA made the leap last year. FIFA really benefited from making the change, the graphical upgrade was noticeable and it feels more polished than it used to. Anyway, the trailer shows off a bit of the game and it’s looking pretty good so far. You can check out the trailer below –

The cover star has also been revealed as Tom Brady who many says is the greatest of all-time. Speaking of the GOAT, there is a GOAT edition available which seems to be the special edition which features "An Elite player from your favourite NFL team, 12 Squad Packs, 2500 contracts and one uniform pack in Madden NFL 18 Ultimate Team." See below -

The game is set for release on August 25th for PS4 and Xbox One.

  2. Last week, EA announced Tom Brady as the cover star for Madden 18. Given his stature as one of the league's best, most reliable players, some Patriots fans might be concerned about the so-called Madden Curse. Brady himself said in a statement that he doesn't believe in it (despite what happened last year) and now his team has put out a very silly video that expands on that even further.

In this TB12 video, Brady attends a fake board meeting of sorts where he criticizes his team for making him wear a "TB12 Performance Safety Bubble" that prevents him from injuries but negatively impacts his lifestyle and training. It gets better from there, leading up to something even worse (for Brady) at the end. Take a look:

In other Madden 18 news, creative director Rex Dickson has teased some of the new game mode styles that players can select in the upcoming pro football game. The options include Arcade, Simulation, and Competitive. You can see full descriptions for each of these in the image below.

  3. Madden 18 Gets New Longshot Mode

Madden 18 will be getting a FIFA 17 The Journey Style mode titled Longshot. The trailer released makes the mode look very similar to The Journey in FIFA 17. Players will be playing as Devin Wade “a forgotten college star” who is trying to peruse his dreams to play in the big time. As you can see in the trailer below, Longshot is looking great on the Frostbite engine.

  4. Ahead of Madden NFL 18's release later this month, EA Sports has now announced the player ratings for all the major positions. Posted on the game's website, the ratings give an indication as to which players are theoretically the best, at least at the start of the season.

Cover star Tom Brady is the highest-rated quarterback, with a 99 rating, while Julio Jones is the top-rated wide receiver (98), and Le'Veon Bell tops the running back charts (97). You can see a breakdown of the top-rated players at the major positions below.

The Seahawks and the Cowboys have seven players rated 90 or higher, more than any other team, with the Patriots following with four. The Jets are the worst, with their highest-rated player only at 85 and only six over 80. Of course, things will certainly change for the Jets and every other team as the season progresses.

Madden 18 launches on August 25 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though there are multiple ways to play early. The game has a new single-player mode called Longshot, featuring Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali.

  5. Madden NFL 18 has been updated just in time for the start of the real-world NFL season, which kicks off on Thursday night. Today's patch makes the game look better on some consoles, as it introduces high dynamic range (HDR) support, while it also implements "general stability updates" that should fix crash scenarios and lock-up scenarios.

The Madden 18 update also fixes a problem where the "Terrible Towels" during home Pittsburgh Steelers games showed up as black or grey instead of yellow and black. What's more, the patch changes the quarter length in online head-to-head matches from four minutes to five.

As for gameplay changes, the new update makes tweaks that make it so ball carrier moves are less effective (dammit), while it should be easier to pass rush the QB now when they hold onto the ball for a long time. The update also fixes a problem where characters on the sideline would not react as they should when big plays happen. You can see the full patch notes below, as shared on EA's website.

The 2017-2018 NFL season begins with the Thursday Night Football matchup between defending Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. Tom Brady, the QB of the Patriots, is on the cover of Madden NFL 18. While he does not believe in the curse, one of Brady's most reliable receivers, Julian Edelman, suffered a season-ending ACL injury during a preseason game this year.
