Football Champions League 2017/18

  1. Play-off Round Draw
    Champions Route

    Qarabağ (AZE) V København (DEN)
APOEL (CYP) V Slavia Praha (CZE)
    Olympiacos (GRE) V Rijeka (CRO)
    Celtic (SCO) V Astana (KAZ)
Hapoel Beer-Sheva (ISR) V Maribor (SVN)

    League Route
İstanbul Başakşehir (TUR) V Sevilla (ESP)
Young Boys (SUI) V CSKA Moskva (RUS)
    Napoli (ITA) V Nice (FRA)
    Hoffenheim (GER) V Liverpool (ENG)
Sporting CP (POR) V FCSB (ROU)

Tough draw for Liverpool, 2nd leg at home gives them the edge however.
  2. Liverpool looking distinctively average against Hoffenheim so far. Hoffenheim have looked confident and should have a couple of goals - the penalty miss was atrocious! Salah missed a good chance for Liverpool when clean through.

The Liverpool midfield has been anonymous far. Henderson and Can can't play in midfield together. Henderson and Wijnaldum can't play in midfield together. Henderson, Can and Wijnaldum can't play together in midfield. Can and Wijnaldum can play together in midfield. Get Henderson out of there.

And wow, just as I'm finishing typing Alexander-Arnold scores a cracking free kick for Liverpool.
  3. Good result for Liverpool. Would have been better if they hadn't conceded (obviously) but they should have more than enough to win comfortably at home. I thought Alexander-Arnold had a superb game. They need replacements for Moreno and Lovern - I'd give Southampton whatever they want in order to get Van Dijk!! The front 3 worked hard but didn't really produce anything....I'm still not convinced that Salah can play at the highest level.

Could have been a different story though if Hoffenheim had scored their penalty and taken some of their earlier chances.
  4. Great result for Liverpool but their defence is terrible. I can see them shipping a lot of goals again this season both at home and in Europe.
  5. Alexander-Arnold played well, especially in the first half. I don't blame him for the goal but he should have played to the whistle instead of raising his hand and looking for offside. Lovern had played the attacker, Uth, onside.
  6. Shambolic second half from Celtic, worst I've seen Celtic play since Rodgers came in. Really looked like they could go out when trailing 4-1.
  7. Liverpool shouldn't dismiss this result against Hoffenheim over the two legs. They only conceded 37 goals all season last year. A goal a game on average and the Liverpool attack has destroyed them over the two legs. Liverpool really need to get their defence sorted out. Lovern and Moreno are terrible.
  8. Liverpool's attacking play in the first 30 minutes was brilliant. The movement of Mane and Firmino along with the vision of Wijnaldum was a joy to watch. Can was excellent too.
  9. Group draw has been made.

Group A: Benfica, Manchester United, Basel, CSKA Moscow
Group B: Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain, Anderlecht, Celtic
Group C: Chelsea, Atlético Madrid, Roma, Qarabag
Group D: Juventus, Barcelona, Olympiakos, Sporting Clube de Portugal
Group E: Spartak Moscow, Sevilla, Liverpool, Maribor
Group F: Shakhtar Donetsk, Manchester City, Napoli, Feyenoord
Group G: Monaco, Porto, Besiktas, Leipzig
Group H: Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham, Apoel Nicosia

Really good draws for Liverpool and United. Spurs got shafted, City should have enough to go through and Chelsea should advance from their group. Celtic are goosed.

  10. Celtic have got absolutely screwed once again. Spurs got a raw deal too.

Manchester United have gotten their obligatory handy group. If you asked Jose to handpick his own group it would have been hard to get better.

Chelsea could struggle but Roma have never been the best in the Champions League.

Liverpool will be happy with their lot.

Man City could struggle. Napoli are a good team and Shakhtar are decent at home. City will need to be on their game in most matches as silly mistakes could be costly.
